- I have file A open in both panels 1 and 2
- I change the active buffer in panel 1, to say the compilation window
- I change back to viewing file A in panel 1

Annoyingly, the cursor position of file A in panel 1 is now the same as the cursor position in panel 2.

I haven't looked too much into just yet, but is it even possible to change this behaviour in the custom layer?

Not easily. You'd have to change a lot of stuff deep inside the "standard" customization stuff which means you'd have no good way of preserving this change from one version to the next.

In the next build I release this behavior will be changed to something that probably reproduces what you actually wanted anyway, which is to return the edit position of panel 1 to where it was in buffer A in panel 1 originally.
